Quiet Operation At A Better PriceJul 11, 2010
By Robert Ferin
"RF's Reviews"
I have used APC UPS backups exclusively. I was surprised like many people when one of my powerful APC backups would not run my Dell Studio XPS 9000 computer. When I called Dell about the problem, they were surprised and couldn't really help. When I talked to APC support, they knew all about the problem. They said I needed a backup that would produce a real sine wave because of the requirements of the power supply that was included with the Dell computer.
The APC person told me what APC unit would solve my issue. However, the unit was pretty expensive, and from reading the reviews, the unit was super noisy all of the time. I ended up ordering the CyberPower PP1100SW because it was cheaper. This unit actually works and is quiet. While the unit has a fan, the fan only turns on when there is a power loss. Under normal use, the unit makes no noise. If there is a quick brown out, my Dell keeps running and the unit stays quiet. If there is a power loss, after a few moments, only then does the fan turn on. This is all fine since the goal at that point is to run the machine long enough to get everything shut down properly.
If you are worried about noise and price, this is the unit to get! APC needs to get their act together and make their units quiet and reduce the price.

Good unit and superb technical supportJan 29, 2010

Very pleased with the unit and technical support. CyberPower is pleasure to deal with. Ordered the unit to have pure sineware power. The first unit arrived with the power plug bent too badly due to bad factory packaging. The Amazon.com shipped a replacement unit promtly and scheduled UPS pickup for the bad one. The second unit had difficulty with USB communication following wake up after sleep mode on Windows 7 64-bit. Only power down/up would help. I submitted the technical support request; it was promptly responded to. I called the technical support agent, who agent sent an updated version of software.

Excellent productFeb 10, 2010
By C. Cutler I needed a pure sinewave UPS for my new speed-demon Dell Studio XPS 9000, which won't work with older non-sinewave UPS systems. Many of the new systems use a different power factor power supply and require the new style UPS. This one works great, and the price is excellent. I used to swear by APC UPS's, but have had less success in recent years. The APC replacement batteries are horribly expensive, whereas the CyberPower uses generic batteries that you can get at any battery store for less than half the price of an APC battery. Since most batteries need to be replaced every few years, it makes the CyberPower an easy thing to recommend. I now have 3 systems running on CyberPower units, and am impressed with the quality and price point.

Best UPS on the market!Aug 20, 2010
By ElektroDragon This is my first UPS, and I'm pretty sure it must be the best one on the market. It is plenty powerful for both my very high end gaming PC, work PCs, network equipment, 5.1 speakers, and phones all at the same time, with PLENTY of wattage to spare. It is also "true sine wave" so there are zero compatibility issues. The software included, which you are better off getting the latest version of online from the manufacturer, works flawlessly under Windows 7 64-bit and is full of interesting and useful statistics. The unit also includes an AVR (voltage regulator) and surge supressor all in one. I can now sell my old AVR unit! I recommend this to anyone with a home office or who is concerned about data loss, etc. The unit is also completely silent, despite the fan that only runs when the battery is used. The self-test function is great! All in all, I am incredibly impressed with this unit.
About the only negative is that there is no way to disable the power button via software. Might be an issue if you have toddlers.

It does what it should.Sep 24, 2010
By C. Branch Reason I got this: Active PFC power supplies claim to require Sinewave UPS. Rather than risk loosing data or damaging the PSU, I went with it. Normally would have looked at APC. However their prices for Sinewave UPSs are much higher.
Pros: Self Test = no power loss. Yank Cord Test = no power loss. Software very easy to use, works fine in Windows 7 64bit. (Downloaded directly from website, never touched the CD). Fully integrates into Windows. Replacement batteries not crazy expensive. My setup currently pulls up to 490W, (1 computer + 1 monitor at full load). I haven't tested to see how well it handles more than that. I will be adding a RAID case and a second monitor so max drain will go into 500s. Price right for sinewave UPS at this wattage. Doesn't look cheap. Good box and packing material.
Cons: Slight buzzing, even when computer is asleep. You can barely hear it, definitely could not hear it over a quiet computer, but in dead silence you can hear it. I think simply covering 4 sides with a cutout box or putting it behind stuff would hide it.
Fan audible when running at over 50% load. My computer uses very silent fans so it is actually quite audible especially for the 15 seconds it's on after the power draw is back to idle. Again box/placement should help minimize this.
Heavy, yes all UPS's are heavy. Seems more than 32 lbs, but could just be the shape.
Speckled material coating is odd looking compared to modern 'blinged out' hardware. Definitely not something to show off, just keep it hidden and let it do it's job. -- Very happy so far.
-Updated after one year- Still working good. Never Lost Power. Currently is powering a mini-itx server, an external raid enclosure, and my workstation. Monitor software rarely doesn't update power status and saw a crash or two (just restart to fix). During a day of voltage irregularities in the power, there was a clear audible sound when the UPS enabled/disabled (it was the only reason I know it was going on), slightly annoying but a good test for the UPS and it worked as expected.
