Description:

The AVR Series CP1500AVRT UPS offers advanced power protection in a sleek and rugged tower. Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) ensures that all your electronics are receiving clean and stable AC power. Designed for mid-level to upper-level computer systems, the CP1500AVRT guards against surges/spikes, and offers battery backup in the event of brownouts, or total power loss. If your PC is unattended, PowerPanel PE ¿ Power Management software automatically saves and closes open files, and shuts down the computer system in an intelligent and orderly manner. The CP1500AVRT also has full dataline protection: RJ11/RJ45 (phone, fax, Ethernet, network, DSL) and RG-6 coax (DSS, cable modem, satellite, cable TV). The convenient tower design allows for placement on the floor, inside a workstation cabinet, or directly on the desktop. ¿Surge-Only¿ outlets are perfect for the addition of peripherals such as monitors, printers, scanners, iPods, or CD/DVD players. * Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) - AVR technology will stabilize the AC signal and maintain a safe voltage level without switching to battery-mode. This conserves battery life, and delivers a cleaner signal to your connected equipment. * GreenPower UPS¿ - GreenPower UPS¿ technology significantly reduces UPS energy costs by bypassing the AVR transformer when incoming AC power is clean. This not only dramatically reduces UPS utility consumption, but also reduces heat dissipation and system noise. * Ultra-Quiet UPS - The combination of an advanced ventilation design, high-end system components, and GreenPower UPS¿ technology give CyberPower UPS systems the lowest sound emissions in its class. This makes our UPS perfect for desktop applications, audio/video installations, and quiet workstation environments. * USB/Serial Connectivity * PowerPanel PE ¿ Smart Management Software * 3-year Warranty

5Nice Product, Good ValueApr 08, 2008
By Jimmy Ray "Just apply Occam's razor."
I bought the CyberPower CP1500AVRT/BC1500D UPS (1500VA/900W) about a week ago. I went with the 1500VA/900W model because I have a fairly powerful win xp pro system (Dell XPS 710 Red, Intel QX6700 quadcore chip, 4Gb RAM, 1000W power supply/air-cooled, Dell 2407 24" widescreen monitor, 2 internal hard drives (250Mb and 750Mb), 2 internal CD-RW/DVD-RW drives/burners, an internal multi-slot card reader, USB mouse and keyboard. Attached are the following self-powered USB peripherals: 2 printers, 2 external 500Gb hard drives, and an external DVD-RAM drive/burner. The system is used mainly for graphic design and video processing. Only the Dell XPS 710, the Dell 24" monitor, and 1 external 500GB HP hard drive are connected to the CP UPS. All the other powered devices are connected to different outlets via their own non-ups surge suppressors.

Using a P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor, I measured the max draw for the connected computer (configured as described above), monitor, and 1 external hard drive to be 352 watts at power-up/boot-up. According to the included CP PowerPanel software, the system typically idles at between 270-280 watts (between 280-290 watts according to the P3 meter). The PowerPanel software fairly consistently displays 16-18 minutes runtime remaining (at idle) when the battery is 100% charged. Obviously, less power-hungry systems can expect longer run times. The fairly compact unit came fully charged, was very easy to setup, and, so far, seems to work exactly as advertised (although, I haven't had a power interruption to test its true mettle yet).

I recommend not installing the PowerPanel software from the included disk, but rather going to CP's website and downloading the latest version (free) from there. The software installed easily and does not seem buggy. As best I can tell, the software installs 2 custom background processes, pppeuser.exe and ppped.exe, that use approx. 5.6Mb and 4.8Mb of memory (at idle), respectively.

After a near-death experience with a recent power outage, I bought this unit primarily for the ability to automatically/softly shut down my (unattended) computer via windows. My research indicated that this was a solid value for the combination of power, features, and warranty (3 yrs.). The comparable LCD version (Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD UPS - LCD Display 1500VA/900W AVR 8-Outlet RJ11/RJ45/Coax Tower USB) adds an external LCD display for about $35.00 extra MSRP (but may sell for at or near same price); otherwise, I think the features are comparable. I didn't feel I needed/wanted the LCD display, since all that information (and more) is available via the software's system tray icon; others may feel differently about that.

Giving the unit 5 stars a this point was a no-brainer.

4A Good Solid UPSAug 09, 2008
By Stephen123 "Stephen"
Pros:
Does its job reliably, quietly and correctly.
Power conditioning.
Eco feature really works.
Can tun off the loud alarm.
Has a fan that only runs when needed.
Good tech support.

Cons:
No cross ship exchange for repair.
Needs Windows to set alarm to off.

I've found this model more reliable than the APC RS series. The Eco feature turns off the transformer completely when the power is good and the transformer is not needed. This saves 80 Watts relative to a comparable UPS. It has a fan, but the fan only runs when the power has been out for a few minutes and I'm on battery power, so in normal use it is silent. I had to use Windows under Parallels to set the alarm to off with my Mac. I don't want an annoying alarm when the power is out. I KNOW the power is out. Although it required windows to turn the alarm off, it stays off without Windows. This is a big advantage over UPSs of most brands which have an alarm you can't turn off.

i have used this same product in the 1200 power for years. needed to add one more back-up and decided to get the 1500. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. it gives me constant, safe coverage for my computers and electronics devices. i live in an area where the electricity has many high/low power surges and for the past 7 years this product has been my salvation.

5Simple to install, easy to useJun 03, 2011
By Gina M. Keenan-Heepke "HSH CLD"
This replaced another battery backup. We live on a farm with REA power and have lots of spikes and brown outs so voltage regulation is imperative for our computer. You just plug the battery in for 16 hours to charge and then you plug in all your devices. It is has a small, unobtrusive footprint and is silent. I only have one minor criticism. The outlets to plug in the devices are on the back of the battery. The one this battery replaced had the outlets on the top which made plugging in everything a little easier.

5Can't get much easierMar 04, 2011
By B. Mudry
I'll admit it up front here so you know. I've become quite biased towards CyberPower products in the last few years. I've even got one of my company's servers being backed up by one similar to this. Set up is a breeze (and Macs recognize them instantly and can be controlled through system preferences without software.) On Windows machines the software is very simple and easy to work with as vs. so much else out there that's designed for corporate environments. That being said, if this is being purchased for use in a normal corporate use environment I don't know if the software would be sophisticated enough for many IT managers. I only use it for individual machines that I need to be able to have closed down before the battery croaks. For this use they are ideal and I suspect the higher end models would work beautifully in a large corporate environment. Price is quite good and their performance has been flawless.
