 Great Cameras Poor sensitivity adjustmentJun 16, 2010

I bought this Camera package for a 2nd home. I was impressed with the size of the hard drive and the amount of record time that was given (2.5 Yrs). I figured if I got have of that it would be great. We got 6 DAYS and that's with the system set to record motion only. The problem I found is at Night bugs set it off. And if you set the sensativity low enough that bugs don't set it off it won't pickup a human. (not good) So it ends up recording all night and thats with only 9 of the 16 cameras hooked up. So setting up alarms to go to email would be a nightmare. it woudl send all night.
We did have trouble with the brackets not holding but I had no trouble getting replacements through customer service.
Picture quality is Great and we had everthing we needed to do the job.

First off I am pleased with the purchase.
Over all I would purchase it again.
Problems
The mounting screws snap off easy. The swivel elbow takes some getting use to. I found that you want it loose as you adjust it into position and then as you tighten it down make sure it is not resting on the bottom if the connection. I have these on the outside of the shop on a farm that has very high winds regularly and they have not moved at all.
I did have one camera that arrived bad. It would not keep a signal. It would operate for a few hours and then fritz out. I had to send the single camera back (I paid shipping. They looked at it and sent it back stating that there was nothing wrong with it. I plugged it in and it failed again after a few hours. I called and told them that I am sure they ran diagnostics on it and it passed but imaging that they did not leave it on for a few hours to test and that was where the problem was. I asked them to pay shipping and they sent me a paid label to send it back. They tested, found it to be faulty and sent me a new camera. Although this process took a few months due to the mailing it back and fourth, I was pleased with the customer service.
Customer Service
I need to reiterate that they have good customer service support as very few companies do anymore.
Software GUI
If using the unit itself or the web, the user interface is pretty self explanatory. It also has a manual that is written fairly well to assist you.
Recording
Recording functionality could be an issue. I found you need to adjust the sensitivity. Just realize that bugs and spider webs on or right in front of the camera will set it off.
Also note that if one camera is recording then all 1-16 are recording (unless there is a way to change that, that I do not know). One way to reduce unnecessary recording is to change the area of detection per camera. If you have tree, clear that area and when the wind blows it will not activate the camera. The same thing goes for in house recording, mask out your ceiling fan.
This unit supports sound, but the cameras that ship do not support sound, they have no microphone.
Thank goodness we have not had any break ins, although we were able to identify what was steeling fish from the pond. It was an owl and a raccoon. For a piece of mind it allows for a quick visual of the blind areas on the property when you hear vehicles out there.
Storage
You can set the drive to overwrite when full or stop, either way you may loose something if the drive gets full. You are able to setup an external drive via USB port(for backing up), although I am not sure how big it will support as external drive sizes are up to 3TB, that is 6X the internal size. The configuration to the FTP site allows you keep as much storage as the FTP server can hold.
Remote Viewing
The configuration of remote web access makes it easy to check on everything no matter where I am at any time 24/7.

Overall, I am very satisfied with this product, however it does have problems with the mounting bracket. The mounting bracket has an adjustible elbo that is very easy to screwup. Once you adjust the camera to your desired field of view, you may find that you cannot tighten down the mount to hold the camera steady. I have mounted 11 camera's and had a difficult time with the mounts on 4 of them. I have found that if you are very gentle and try not to move the elbo at all you can get a good tight mount that will not swing in the wind.

All I can say is that it's very refreshing to be able to purchase one item that has everything you will need to finish the job. I have a 3,750 sq ft warehouse and can cover every angle of it with this system. No need for additional wires or cameras. Installation & set up was a piece of cake. I've never set up a security camera system before and I am not very savy with high tech gear, but this was a cinch! I highly recommend this set up for anyone looking for a do it yourself decent quality security system. -Richard, Homestead, FL-

I installed this system in Dec 2010, was broken into in my gunstore in jan. 2011.
ATF arrested the five intruders within a week and told me my vidios were imperative to the arrests made.
Job well done Defender.
