Honeywell 5815 - a worthy wireless sensorJan 12, 2012
By G. Bica I purchased 2 of these for use with a Vista 20P Ademco Vista 20p alarm system. The box included the sensor and the magnet. It took me a while to figure out how to program this into the Vista system, because the sensor has 4 loops. Each loop has to be programmed into a separate channel. Loop 2 is closed/secure, loop 4 is open/alarm. Loop 1 (closed) and loop 3 (open) are assigned to the external wired sensor. Yes, this wireless sensor has 2 contacts for wiring 1 or more additional magnetic wired sensors such as this Ademco 945WH Honeywell 945WH Surface Mount Magnetic Contact w/ Leads in parallel. With one of these, in combination with a few cheap wired sensors you could protect a large window with multiple "doors" or multiple windows that are close by. This great feature is not mentioned anywhere on Amazon, but it is listed in the small pamphlet.
I have been arming the alarm every night, and so far the sensors have functioned properly. Battery life is estimated at 1-2 years, depending on use. When the alarm system is off the sensor only checks back with the Vista base every X minutes to conserve battery.
The sensor is small enough to fit and blend in with the white vinyl windows. I will post an update if there is a problem, but so far so good.
