2very disappointing soundFeb 10, 2012

We use a Honeywell door chime (RCWL330A) for our store delivery door and it is AWESOME. When our door entry chime (a different manufacturer) started failing, I decided to go with the "tried and true" and purchased a second Honeywell door chime, along with two sets of converters (RPWL3045A) and two sets of these door contacts. I was really looking forward to having separate chimes for our front and back customer doors.

WRONG. Come to find out, after spending the best part of an afternoon setting this up and getting it to work (the door chime itself is a piece of cake to program, but installing these involves opening up the units and wiring them a certain way, which if you're not used to doing wiring stuff, takes a while to be sure you get the wires between these and the converter set up to the right terminals, and so on), come to find out that in spite of the fact that the door chime itself has six very lovely chimes to choose from, the door contact defaults to ONE alarm sound. And it SOUNDS like an alarm. Like someone is breaking in. Not a siren, but a very scary sounding chirpy thing. This would be awesome for someone using them for home security or to alert if a child is going outdoors -- not so good for customers coming in your very nice retail store.

I read reviews religiously before purchasing online, and I saw other reviews that talk about knowing that someone has opened the door and knowing which door it is. Not sure how this works if the chime defaults to the alarm thing. In any event I did not see any indication (either here or on the Honeywell website) that this sound couldn't be changed to something more pleasant. But I've tried everything and nothing changes. (The push button associated with the converter can be programmed, but apparently not these door contacts.)

Don't get me wrong -- Honeywell makes terrific door chimes that actually work -- but I wish I'd known I'd be stuck with the scary alert sound using these door contacts. I have an email in to Honeywell to see if there is any way around this and will update if I learn more.

::UPDATE:: I did contact Honeywell (by email, it took several days for each response, but whatever) about changing the sound, and they confirmed that on the door contacts, only the alert sound is available. I'm not even sure how effective this would be as an alarm, since the chirping only sounds once, not continuously, so if it doesn't wake you right off the bat, you could miss it entirely. Great doorbell, not so great door contacts. :(

5No more surprise visitsDec 19, 2009

No more adult children dropping by unannounced and scaring the dayligts out of us! We've installed this gadget on all exterior doors and connected these to our door bell. Now we can hear when people are entering, and at which door.

5Honeywell Wired Door ContactsNov 16, 2009
By B. Dorn
I purchased this product for the law firm where I work. We needed a doorbell system that did not buzz or beep at the entryway. In combination with the Honeywell door bell system, we can have a remote, separate location for the sound box, so it doesn't annoy our clients (or me) anymore.

2Contacts work fine but not for securityApr 20, 2012

The contact point will work fine with your Honewell door bell set up but only rings twice and then stops. So if you don't hear it for whatever reason someone could have entered a locked door and you would never know it.

4GREAT security, for a CHEAP price!Sep 17, 2009

I bought these door contacts with the thought that it would be some cheesy battery operated plastic doo-dad. Was I WRONG, and sadly mistaken. These door contacts hook up to a wireless converter that transmits a signal to the required Honeywell Door Bell/Door Contact/Security Alarm Housing. I bought the main Honeywell Wireless door bell system, then bought the add-ons like the door contacts and couldn't be happier. I recommend this system to ALL Amazon buyers.
