1Mediocre camera with TERRIBLE softwareNov 27, 2010
By Patrick mcclory
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1NX9XYA5ZT0YH Honestly, this is a pretty sub-par setup, especially for those who aren't IT professionals. Yeah, it's nice to offer a web server to share the video inside a personal network, but if it's impossible to set up and even worse to admin, don't package your hardware with half-baked software.

Just a few examples:
-Securemote 2 won't allow more than 1 external connection at a time, even when it's set to allow 4 remote connections
-the web server dies everytime someone connects, period
-Securemote won't restart and release ports so that you can reset the app and connect again. Requires you to close the processes from task manager

So the camera works, but I had to turn to another webcam server (I'm between YAWCam and webcam7 next version of webcamXP) to get this operational across my network and even to get it to work properly on the host computer. I'm REALLY disappointed in the software that's packaged with this camera, equally disappointed that licensing issues are preventing Levana from posting updates/downloads on their site.

4Good little camera for the price.May 01, 2010
By Nancy Pryor
We have a disabled daughter and got this little camera to be able to allow her the freedom of playing in her room without having us right there with her. It enables us to watch in case she needs us. The only difficulty we have had is mounting the camera in a place where we can see her entire room. When we use the plug it weighs the little camera down so it records things sideways. Otherwise it is simple to use, simple to connect to my computer and I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs to monitor a young child. We are very happy with our purchase.

2Could Not Get the Online Viewing to WorkApr 11, 2010
By P.C. Thomas
We already had one of Levana's other baby monitor products- the BabyView 20, which we have been happy with so far, but we were excited about this model's online viewing capability. I thought it would be great to be able to see my baby while I'm at work. Unfortunately, setting up online monitoring is harder than we anticipated. The camera works well, but it was the remote viewing we really wanted.

This camera pairs with a USB antenna to allow you to use your computer as a viewer for the camera. The picture captured by the camera is by no means high definition. Think convenience store surveillance camera quality. Good enough to see what's going on, but not highly detailed. The viewing software that comes with the camera boasts the capability to take "photos" and record video, but I wouldn't think that the recordings would be anything you would really save for posterity. I can see that it would be good for reviewing the events of a day or night, if you wanted to see what happened while you were gone. It also reminds me that this camera could be used for a lot of purposes, not just for baby. You could use it to watch pets while you are out or for a sort of security system. The manual says that up to 4 cameras can be paired with the USB device, so you could put up many cameras to create a system.

The instructions for setting up the camera for simple viewing on your computer is fairly simple. There is software and a camera driver that you have to install, and that is about it. I didn't have any trouble setting that up. I was also able to view the streaming video on a web browser on an another computer in my house. That wasn't too hard.

What I have not been able to get to work is the ability to watch the streaming video from outside our home. In order to set up remote viewing, you have to go into your internet router's administration module and set up "port forwarding." The instructions for this that come with the camera are easy to follow- but only if everything goes well. I have run into trouble because apparently my ISP is blocking port 80 and I can't use it to forward my web camera. The other possibility is that my router and modem are on separate subnetworks and I need to contact my ISP to find out how to bridge them. At least that is what I have gathered from Levana's manual. If those two concepts sound like more than you can handle, you will most likely have trouble setting up online viewing with this camera.

I am usually pretty good with technology, but getting this online viewing to work is beyond my capabilities. Levana does seem to have numerous options for support: email, chat, and phone. I will probably be contacting them to try and troubleshoot this problem, but I suspect that the solution may still require me contacting my ISP, which does not sound like fun. When you are busy taking care of a new baby, trying to set up a complicated web camera is not high on the list of priorities.

To the extent that I've used the camera so far, everything but the online viewing works fine. And online viewing may be easy for you to set up, as long as you don't run into any problems with blocked ports or other advanced networking issues. Because I think the main appeal of this particular product is the online viewing, I am disappointed that it is so complicated. Until I can figure out how to make the online viewing work, we'll be sticking with our other Levana video monitor that works with a handheld viewer.

1HorribleJun 06, 2011
By WifeyMama
Bought this only to discover that it's only for PC's & I'm a MAC user. So I bought an $80 program called parrallels & a new version of windows which wasn't cheap either- so that I could run windows through parallels in the background of my MAC. Got all that set up (not easy), & couldn't get the camera to actually work for me. I think there may be q problem with the camera or USB that came with it, but I'll probably never know cause Levana customer support doesn't actually exsist. I tried reaching them for a week before I gave up. This camera cost me 3 times what I originally paid for it & still doesn't work. I'm about to contact the dealer I bought it from to see if I can get a refund or something.

1Not Compatible with my Windows VistaJun 14, 2010
By annie "grannieannie"
This camera will not work with my computer. I have Windows Vista/not a Mac! When I plug in the USB it does not light up and I get a message that it is not recognized. It does, however, work on my daughter's computer; and I know that my USB is not faulty since I use it for other programs.

I have been corresponding with the company for a couple of weeks and this is their final message:

"At this time we are finding that this device does not seem to be compatible with some processors on new PC's. At this time we are currently looking into a resolution for this issue, most likely in the for of a software update. At this time you have the option of waiting for a resolution (which I cannot unfortunately give you a time line on) or if you just recently purchased the item and you do not wish to wait you can contact the reseller you purchased from and see about returning it for a refund."
