Works well with Sears Craftsman openerSep 11, 2010

This device makes a great gift. For about a year now, it has worked flawlessly with our 1994 model Sears Craftsman garage door opener. The directions were good and programming was easy. I was initially concerned about two things: the lettering wearing off the keys we use, and dropping keystrokes which would cause us to have to reenter the code. Neither has been a problem. Although we use it daily, the lettering on the keys has not shown any wear yet. The keypad is good and every keystroke is reliable. I like the backlight feature - easier to see in the dark. The backlight comes on with your first keystroke and turns off automatically.
The one slight complaint I have is that the lid doesn't like to stay up by itself, after several months of use. This requires slightly more coordination for one-handed operation.

Works perfect. Installed in minutes with easy to follow instructions. Sears and Home Depot wanted double the price. Installed with Linear opener.

not for old openers!Apr 28, 2011
By DaviD N. After wasting over an hour and half dealing with the written instructions, on-line instructions and finally the loooong wait for customer assistance I am told that this remote opener does not work on doors pre-1993. Would have been nice to know that universal means - "UNIVERSAL SORT OF"! Other than that I can't really evaluate it. My 1990 daily use Liftmaster door has worked great all these years with no problems though.

Excellent Keyless Combination Keypad!Jan 01, 2011

This little keypad is brilliant. It took only 10 minute to install and has worked flawlessly for 3 years now. It gets used a few times a day and performs in all types of weather. The keypad lights up orange each time a key is pressed which really helps in the dark. The combination was very easy to set. Last winter it hit -30F and worked without a problem. I used it just the past few weeks with gloves on when it was well below 0F and never missed the combination once. The batteries continue to run despite the cold winters and summers close to 100F. It has been covered in snow, ice and rain and get's hit by the afternoon sun and has never failed. With just a few coats of paint it matched the trim on my house. Being plastic it took 3 coats of paint and had a nice finish in the end. In all, if this keyless keypad broke tomorrow I would go and purchase another one.

Works with Craftsman 1/2 HP openerOct 03, 2011
By Scott in NoVA I have a Craftsman 1/2 HP opener with a manufactured date of 8/2000, and the orange smart learning button. The instructions for this Liftmaster keypad suggest that my opener is type 4 with an opener ID of 2 for programming purposes. When done this way, either the keypad will work with the opener, OR my original remotes will work with the opener, but not both. Clearly that would be unacceptable, so I tried different numbers for the opener ID, and everything worked perfectly after programming the keypad using an opener ID of 4. Perhaps it is a mistake in the instructions, or perhaps there was a running change in my opener model, who knows. The point is, if it doesn't work when programmed with the opener ID specified in the instructions, try the other ID numbers before giving up.
Other than the programming issue, it works fine. I have a newer door with full steel facing front and back, about 1.5" thick overall (IIRC the R value is something like 12.6). Some reviews mentioned signal strength issues but mine has worked 100% of the time. Mounting is easy and the slide-up cover seems adequate so far.
