Quick, easy, trouble free and no tech knowledge requiredDec 24, 2011
By R. E. McFarlane I was in the market for a couple netcams for home security purposes and I had pretty much settled on buying a couple of fairly expensive power over Ethernet (POE) models. Then I came across the Logitec netcams and read the reviews. After reading the reviews I decided these cameras would fit the bill so I ordered the two camera pack. Setting up the cameras was incredibly easy. It basically comes down to running the software and plugging the cameras into a power outlet where you want to locate them. You don't have to worry about stringing cables because your home wiring IS the cable. Once you have plugged the cameras into a wall socket for power, the software will locate the cameras and BAM - you are in business. You can view the cameras from any computer on your home network or anywhere else you have an Internet connection. I use the motion detection feature to get emails of motion at work and then I can log on to the camera and see what is going on at home. The cameras have microphones so you can also listen in if you want to. They don't have speakers so you can't carry on a two way conversation but that was not a big concern for me. The video is quite good especially for close up items. You could easily read the pages of a book if the camera was close enough. These cameras don't have night vision and that is a small downside, but I have solved that issue by hooking up a lamp to an X-10 motion detector. Then if there is any motion in the area the light comes on and I can see what is going on. And another VERY COOL feature of these cameras is they record video to a SD card in the camera. So if you miss some action you can always pop the SD card out and watch the videos on your computer. Also, these cameras come with everyting you need to set them up, including mounting brackets, ethernet cables, software, etc. Packaging is excellent and top quality. Oh, one more thing, if you have a power outage or you want to move the cameras it's really not a problem. I have had two winter storm power outages and one of the cameras disappeared from the network when the power came back on. I just ran the software again to have it search for the camera and in a few seconds the missing camera was back on line. For basic home security these are great cameras and I highly recommend them.

Promises a lot, delivers much lessAug 12, 2011

Purchased this 2 camera indoor set from Amazon after a long search for a simple to install video monitoring system. Here is my experience:
1. Packaging was excellent and items well laid out and identified. 2. Quality of the the product: camera, connecting cables, hardware, tutorial all Excellent 3. Set up from opening box to watching live video was less than 15 minutes. Incredibly easy 4. Quality of video adequate with poor low light performance
Installation of Logitech Software was on a 2 year old Dell running XP and a real workhorse of a computer. All drivers up to date and well maintained.
First problem: Video did not appear in the main window that allows for good viewing of the images. Should be able to see both cameras (up to 6) simultaneously.
Called tech support three times and read the Logitech forum reviews that identified this issue. I tried all suggestions with no avail. Inability to see the images on the main screen (you can see them in the small window) makes this not a useful device.
Second problem: camera is supposed to record when motion is detected. This is viewable on the web, smart phone, and the desktop software. At best this worked on one of the cameras, in one of the methods above. In other words, when I tried to review "triggered events" there was nothing to show. As I write this, I am still waiting for the web version to load the playback mode from this morning. This renders the system useless.
Third problem: iphone and other mobile interface - you are supposed to be able to be alerted by email, sms, or mms if there is a triggered event and a picture can follow. This occurred too many minutes after the envent and the photo is streaky and not useful. In other words, if you are counting on the system to tell you if there has been an event that you need to know about, its going to be either too late and/or you cannot view it properly.
Summary: attractive and easy to set up, but other than impressing your family and friends by how quick it can promise to do what it suggests, this system does not deliver! It is being returned to Amazon today for a refund and I have to go back to searching for a more reliable system for video surveillance.

The first set I reveived had a defective camera per Logitec. Amazon sent me a second set and all is well. The system is extremely easy to setup, it took me less than a half hour to install the software and cameras.

Does what I want, software could be better. . .Oct 16, 2011
By E. Tam Had a Lorex system, the quality was okay for a $100 camera. Wanted something a bit more better quality without breaking the bank. I put this package on my wish list when it was $549.00 and bought it when Amazon had a Deal for $399.
Pros: One system can handle up to six cameras On scale of 1 to 10 for daytime picture quality, I rate it a 7 Easy to hook up. Simple plug and play One single cable powers the camera and video feed Ability to turn of the flashing/blinking light in the camera Logitech software interface is easy to use Ability to record to MicroSD card (so you don't need the software running on the computer, but if you want the alert email to you, then you'll need it constantly running); when you enable the software, the video automatically downloads to the computer. Setup took less than 15 minutes for both cameras. What took the longest was finding the angle and where to put the camera
Cons: On scale of 1 to 10 for night time picture quality, I rate it a 0... don't bother. (This was expected since they were indoor camera) Software, interface is great, but the transfer from camera to software is slower than the DSL turtle.. took over 3 days to transfer 8GB of data from camera's card to the Logitech software
For $399.00 system is very good, but I don't think I would buy it for $549.00. I'll probably end up buying the outdoor camera as well. Currently, it sells for $299 so I'll wait until Amazon has another deal or if the price falls below $200. For those that have complained the software sometimes does not send out alert, you did better than I did as I never got it working. But, what I did is I have a remote control software running on my desktop. The plan is if my alarm company calls about a tripped sensor, I can remote in from work or my iPad and view the system live.

Almost greatAug 23, 2011
By Steven R. Hatfield There are lots of good things to say about this system, but also lots of bad things to say about it.
Hardware The hardware seems solid, and stable, yet I've had 2 power bricks go bad on me in the 6 months that I've owned the system. To Logitech's credit, they have replaced them -- no questions asked -- both times. Their customer service department is excellent. The network brains are in the power bricks, the camera just shoots videos and stores them on the little 2GB memory sticks. Logitech really should have included larger memory sticks in the cameras, but as long as you run the Logitech Alert software and store the video on your computer, it should be fine.
Software The Logitech Alert Software is a .NET application that runs on a Windows based PC (no Macs allowed!). You can view the images via your web browser, but you need to subscribe to the Logitech service for that. If you secure your camera network with a password (which sounds like a good idea to me!), and have to replace any of your cameras or power bricks as I have, then you are in for a world of hurt. Each time I had to reset the entire network back to stock and start over in order to get the camera back online. The software is very easy to use, but it is lacking 1 very important thing - there is no date/time stamp in the actual image that is recorded! This was a big dissapointment for me, as I want to know exactly when the video was recorded in the image itself. The video is stored in standard MP4 files that can be viewed with QuickTime. I would like the date/time stamped into the video image so that I can view any of these files from my backup drives and know exactly when the video was recorded.
Service The Logitech Alert service is available for (at this moment) $79 per year. You can connect to it from a web browser that supports Adobe Flash or from a dedicated (free) app for the iPhone, iPad or Android. The problem is that its availability is crap. There are a ton of times when I cannot connect to the service at all, or get a message that indicates that I should try again in a few minutes. A lot of the time when I can connect, and I try to view the live camera image, I just get a continuous wait cursor (so to speak) and no image appears. It will eventually time out and tell me to try again later. It's quite infuriating that I spend money to watch a wait cursor. They really need to work on this. When it works, it works, though.
iPhone / iPad Software The iPhone software isn't as good as the iPad LogitechAlert software. The iPad can stream audio as well as video, for instance. The one thing that I really wish that I could do is zoom in on the image using a pinch gesture. I can't speak to the Android version since I don't own one. You can view the live stream or watch any recorded video in the playback part of the app. It's quite nice, when it can connect.
Image Quality The camera image quality is "ok" -- better than a standard web cam -- but not as good as a "real" security camera. The Axis camera that this system replaced had much better resolution, for instance. The indoor camera does not have night vision, so it's pretty much blind when the room gets dark. The outdoor camera has night vision, but there are many times that it will report movement when a bug flies too near the camera. This happens very often because the night vision infra red draws the bugs in. They look like little torpedoes, zooming around in the air. I've also had a Spider build a web right in front of the camera.. it was quite cool to watch the footage.
So there you have my review; hopefully you find it helpful.
