5great tv tunerJun 13, 2008

The quality is like a tv, the software is some basic but you can download other suite for tv tuner with more option, fm quality is very good, and the remote control work perfectly. You can transform your pc in a tv.

I should have read reviews before I bought this. It won't work with VCR for video capture. It also didn't come with the software listed on the box and the install drivers were way out of date.

I just bought one two or three months ago and it has not work, when i try to turn it on the sistem retrieves an alert avising that there in not a tuner for this device, my computer detects the hardware but i am unable to see the TV, i guess it is because the remote control is not working, but i dont now if i need a code to the remote control works.

I am using it in a Win64 machine with no problems. I did need to search for software but it was easy to find.

Where to even begin... This card is an exercise in frustration and futility. First, notice how in the picture the top port on the card for the FM antenna is a recessed RCA connector? Yeah, on the hardware revision that I got it's a F connector like the one below for the TV in. Not a big deal you might think; and it wouldn't be if it didn't stick out so far. As it is I had to remove the bracket from the card to get it in the case, and even then fight with it for a few hours. Now it's in and I don't think it's coming back out with anything short of a hacksaw. Then there's the main reason that I bought this card, to make a Media Center PC around Boxee/MythTV and/or XP MCE. I figured that it was too good to pass up; a card with a remote for about the same price as a MCE remote alone. But no, turns out that the Phillips chipset that this card uses is the TV tuner equivalent to a WinModem- everything's done in software. So it's only compatible with it's own software, not compatible with MythTV or with Windows Media Center Edition. Well OK, I though to myself, I just really needed the remote, the tuner was a nice add on but not strictly necessary for my purposes. And of course the remote was DOA. I was able to pry the remote open and bend the power contacts so that they were actually touching the batteries and get the remote to work, only to find out that the remote is not MCE compatible, so even having gotten it working it's still useless. The remote is handled by it's own program as well, so there's no ability to set macros or assign keymaps to the remote buttons. I guess if you just want basic TV tuner functionality and don't care about all the glitches, problems and hassles, it's fine. However for my purposes I have a useless card in my Media Center computer and I can't even remove.
