5Great Freeze Alarm. Tested in Alaska. Recommended!Oct 17, 2008
By Sheppard
I have bought this device to monitor my home here in Alaska when we're gone. What better does this device get tested then here in the Last Frontier? I can tell you it gets the job done and does everything a basic freeze alarm needs to do. It monitors my home power and temperature. It has a connection for a flood sensor you can probably add later (not included). I like the clear instructions and easy setup of the device. There is a video setup available on their website. I have programmed 3 phone numbers in the device that will first call me and after that two other family members if I do not answer. I would recommend this device to my fellow Alaskans and everybody else who needs to monitor their home during the winter months. Amazon has the lowest price and free shipping to Alaska! Something other merchants could learn from.

5Freeze AlarmMar 04, 2009
By K. Zagaja
I would highly recommend this product. I have been having a furnace problem and I frequently travel. After my furnace stopped and I found my house at 38 degrees, I purchased it. It has gone off twice in the last 2 weeks. It will call up to 3 phone numbers and will keep trying until it gets a response. It will not just leave a message at the first number it calls. It will continue to call until someone responds. Now I just have to hope my furnace is finally fixed right. A lot better than the freeze alarms you have to call. Just plug it in and it was easy to program. It has a battery backup and it will call you if the power goes out.

The THP201 is well made, simple to program, works as stated and priced right. I've tested for both power out and low temp and have confirmed the proper operation.

4Snowbirds can use this deviceJun 28, 2009
By P. Paustian
The only reason for 4 stars was that 9V battery that came with the unit was discharged. A flashing red light indicates battery is low.

This is a great product for those Northerners that spend four or five months away from their principal residence and want alerted in the event of a power or furnace failure. Keep in mind that you must use this device with a telephone land line. If you do not have dependable telephone service there is still a point of failure. The device can be programmed to call up to three numbers.

I tested a cell phone; there is a test feature built in, and it worked fine. You will need to get the cooperation of relatives or friends to know what to do if alerted. Instruction cards are included.

The setup of the device is simple and a website address is provided where you can watch a video of the setup.

4No ones home, leave a message.Nov 22, 2009
By J. Koch "The Handyman"
I am a Caretaker for an absentee owner of a home in Colorado. I was looking for a way to monitor the home for heat so the pipes don't freeze. I had worked as a Mobile Security Officer in a gate community and we used the Winter Watchmans that turns a light on when the temp in the homes dips. The problem of course is that someone has to see the light and then take action. I had planned to buy one for the home I take care of when I saw the Reliance.
Wow what a concept! The peace of mind it gives me (and the Owner) knowing that I won't show up there one day and have the place frozen solid is priceless. I know I sleep better at night. The Reliance make a phone call to multiple numbers until someone actually answers the phone and pushes a button on the phone assuring someone actually got the message.
The problem? The message is generic and makes a series of beeps to indcate what needs attention (heat, power loss, water leak). No biggy if it would actually tell you where the phone call originated from. You have to rely on your caller ID. If I was monitoring multiple home (which I hope to in the future) it would be difficult to determine which home needs attention especially if the number is private or unlisted. But if your only monitoring one home and receive the alarm call this wouldn't be a problem. It would be flawless and get 5 stars if it incorporated the phone number into the message somehow.
For an individual home owner only worried about one home this unit is priceless. In my Security jobs the first sign of trouble in a home without some sort of alarm (or no power, thus no warning) is water running out under the front door and down the street! The devistation inside in these cases is disaterous, take my word. The water leak sensor sold seperate and I didn't buy it but may in the future.
