What actually happen:
with all the positive reviews I felt very confident with this item. I was told phone support was great! I don't know if those are actual people or part of the company that sold them. Let me tell you what really happen. The product was delivered ontime. When I opened the box, it had no name on it anywhere and the product did not look like the photo. In my mind, I thought this was the updated version so I was ok with that. After I plugged it in, I was looking for the 800 number for help. It turns out there is no 800 number with this model. They give you a mini CD to put in your computer and follow the directions. WHAT!!??? I spent 8 hours trying to figure this thing out and I just couldn't get it to work. I then called my brother-in-law whos a computer engineer. After he fiddled with it, he said that the camera is not compatable with Windows 7. Which, of course that's what I have.

Please PLEASE BE CAREFUL if you plan to purchase this unit. By the way, I also purchased the trendnet before this unit and that one is also not compatable with Windows 7. However they did have great customer support.

5Great Customer ServiceApr 26, 2010
By Dan F. "Dan F."
I purchased this camera for home use (indoors). The camera seems to have good picture quality and should work just fine for my application. I have installed it on my mac computer through an airport wireless network.

The instructions are very PC-oriented and not terribly clear. I am not a computer expert and struggled over the weekend getting it set up. I contacted the company for some technical support and spent quite a long time with David K. who very patiently walked me through all of the set-up screens. I have to give a full 5-stars for the customer support. All told, it took me about 1.5 hours to get it all set up, but now that it is done, I can put it anywhere in my house, monitor it from my computer or iPhone.

After initial set-up, things are looking very good.

1No support - incomplete descriptionJan 20, 2011
By Daniel Ratner
The other reviews on this product looked good and it's quite likely the hardware is good, but there are some MAJOR problems with setup:

1) The box comes with no manual or paper documentation at all. It only comes with a mini CD which won't work in any system with a slot-fed CD drive (including virtually all macs).
2) There is no web site to support the product either, so you can't download the docs when you realize the mini CD is a big problem. (This is 2011 and it's a technology product. No web site? Really?)
3) Even once you get the files off the mini CD you will find out that the basic configuration tools are all PC-only (.exe files). This wasn't clear in the product listing.
4) With most IP cameras you'd imagine it'd be no big deal - you'd just connect it to your network and connect with a browser. No luck. By default, the device doesn't even pull an IP address from a DHCP server and the documentation doesn't tell you what (if any) default address it ships with. (I tried a network scan across 192.168.1.0/24. No luck.)
5) What the documentation DOES tell you is that you need ActiveX to use this device. Once again, all non-PC users are out of luck. (Does anyone still use ActiveX? Really?)

In short, if you are a windows user with a caddy fed drive and a lot of patience, this could be an OK device, though goodness help you if you ever need a firmware upgrade or anything like that since there is no product website. If you aren't a windows user, get something else.

5VERY PLEASEDJul 27, 2010

What a great product. It was very complicated to set up but the customer service was above and beyond. I can now watch my daughter in her crib from my office in NY. I can email alerts when there's movement in her room and can go to live action for all the great moments you don't want to miss.

I'd recommend this product to anyone. We're probably going to buy 2 more eventually.

This camera might be great...if you can get it to function. I couldn't get the software it comes with to run on Windows 7, and the mini CD will not go into my MacBook Pro. There is no user manual other than the mini CD. After two hours of attempts at just making the software work, I decided life is too short and this camera is too complicated to possibly be worth bending over backwards to try to get it functional. If something can't work out of the box in much shorter time than that...it doesn't work.

After this camera, I tried the FOSCAM and spent around 20 hours trying to configure it for remote access through my router. It never worked. Finally, I settled on the Astak Mole...works like a charm and only took about 10 minutes to setup.
